Composite still needs cleaning. Manufacturer guidance for current products commonly addresses dirt, pollen, food, mildew, hard-water residue, snow or ice products, pressure-washing limits, and stain-response timing. Use the instructions for the exact board—not a generic internet cleaning recipe.
Questions to ask about a composite proposal
- What manufacturer, line, profile, color, and board length are included?
- Is the product capped composite, PVC, or another material?
- What joist spacing and blocking does that line require for straight, diagonal, stair, or picture-frame installation?
- What end gaps, side gaps, and perimeter clearances apply at the expected installation temperature?
- Which hidden or face-fastening system is approved?
- How will breaker boards, butt joints, fascia, stair treads, and board ends be detailed?
- What cleaning and warranty documents will the owner receive?
Published installation guides from major manufacturers show why the exact product matters: joist spacing, gapping, blocking, temperature, board orientation, and fastener instructions can change by line and application.
Surface temperature and sun exposure
Any deck in direct North Texas sun can become uncomfortable. Surface temperature depends on more than the category name: color, product formulation, texture, air temperature, solar exposure, shade, and airflow all contribute.
Do not choose from a small indoor display alone. Take sample boards outside at the property, place them where the deck will receive afternoon sun, and compare them under the conditions that matter to your household.
